libido

For Freud, libido is a sexual energy that can fluctuate and that can be directed toward any number of objects. Libido is often described as the "sex drive." Cathexis is the process by which an object is invested with libido. In narcissism, the ego itself becomes the object of libidinal investment--the person "falls in love with himself."
