In 1973, English professors founded the Writing Workshop at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, one of the first university writing centers in the country.
In 2008, Dr. Erica Reynolds Clayton became the new director of the Writing Workshop, overseeing its relocation from Kuykendall Hall to Sinclair Library, and re-envisioning it as the new University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Writing Center.
In the 2008-2009 academic year, Writing Center tutors consulted with 1,000 UH students, professors, and staff members, and gave in-class presentations to over 700 students in a range of courses, from English to Math to ROTC.
The Writing Center serves as a academic nexus for students and a resource center for the written word.
