Established in 1988, the Friends of the English Department aims to promote greater understanding and appreciation of the goals, activities, and contributions of the Department to the profession of English and to the people of Hawai‘i--students, alumni, parents, emeriti, and general public. Through donations, sustained contributions, and bequests of gifts and money to our University of Hawai‘i Foundation account, the Friends supports scholarships, creative-writing awards, travel for graduate students, honoraria for lectures and readings, purchase of learning materials and equipment, and more to benefit students, faculty, and those who care about the literary arts, critical thinking, and language.
