New Director for Hawai'i Bibliovision

HAWAI`I BIBLIOVISION, UHM’s community access television show, has a new director and editor, MONICA MUNRO of Distributed Learning and User Services. Now into its third season, HAWAI`I BIBLIOVISION continues its important role in presenting and profiling UH and community events on television. The hour-long program airs on the first Tuesday of each month at 8 pm on `Olelo (Channel 55).

BIBLIOVISION’s originator and producer, RUTH HSU of the English Department, is excited about Monica’s influence on the show: “Thanks largely to Monica’s skills in editing, Bibliovision has a different opening and new music to go with it.”

Since the last TRADEWINDS issue, BIBLIOVISION has been busy. In September and November 2007, the program showcased French Polynesian writers in Honolulu to celebrate the launch of a collection of their work, VARUA TUPU. In November, playwright, VICTOR RODGERS, visiting 2006 Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writer, and students from the UHM Theater Department were the stars. The December show featured Citizens' Chair, ALBERT WENDT with up-and-coming poets, BRANDY MCDOUGALL, EMELIHTER KIHLENG, RYAN OISHI and TAMMIE OKA --a great way to end the first half of the third season.

The second half of Season 3, beginning in Spring 2008, continues with a very exciting line-up of artists and scholars. The February show featured Juliana Spahr, the Marjorie Sinclair Edel Reading Series speaker for Fall 2006. Other shows in the spring of 2008 include excerpts from Translation: Theory, Practice, Trope. An International Symposium at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, as well as provocative talks by John Greyson, filmmaker and featured speaker for Intersections 2007 (UHM Art Department).

Don’t forget to tune in to `Olelo 55 on first Tuesdays to see television that matters on HAWAI`I BIBLIOVISION.
