The essay you produce will be about one essay you have chosen from CR, Nā Mana’o (or some other source of interesting essays) for these purposes:

  1. to get a good grasp of an author's ideas and writing methods by developing your own skills of annotating the essay with your comments & questions on main ideas and details, then paraphrasing the author’s ideas accurately, summarizing them concisely, and analyzing the ways they are put together to suit the author's purpose(s) and possible audience(s).
  2. To write your personal response to the essay, which can be developed any way you want.
Your final paper will have a Title that may include the author's last name and "Title" of the essay you are discussing and be divided into 3 main parts:
  1. A brief Summary (about 100 words)
  2. An Analysis (1-2 pp.)
  3. Your Personal Response (which may have its own subtitle) (1-2 pp.)
