I was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and received
my undergraduate degree from LaSalle College and my Ph.D. from Stanford
University. I came to the University of Hawaii in 1990 and have
been a member of the English Department since. I teach a wide variety
of courses from introductory courses in writing, literature, and
theory to specialized courses in Gothic and Romanticism, and at
all levels of our curriculum. My scholarly work focuses on eighteenth-century
and Romantic era British literature; I am current
