Thomas Hilgers is Professor of English, Director
of the Manoa Writing Program
(the campus Writing-Across-the-Curriculum program), and Director
of the UHM General Education Office. A specialist in Composition,
he has published research reports in RTE and in Written
Communication on children's writing and on writing program assessment.
He is the author, with Joy Marsella, of Making Your Writing Program
Work: A Guide to Good Practices (1992), one of the first books
on writing-program administration. His current research interest
is how students learn to write about research in different fields.
He continues to teach graduate courses in composition and is currently
vice chair of the Faculty Senate.
