Piper Selden is a doctoral candidate, Graduate Assistant, and teacher of English at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She lives in Hilo, on the Big Island, and commutes to campus each week. Piper’s teaching philosophy is guided by the following ideas: to inspire life-long learners, to foster collaborative and student-centered
learning, and to encourage risk-taking, experimentation, and self-empowerment in the classroom. When not surfing or dodging lava flows in Hilo, Piper reads, writes, and teaches on topics relating to the environment.
