Kraepelin, Emil
1856 - 1926

A pioneer in case-study research in psychology, the psychiatrist Emil Kraepelin established many of the major clinical categories of mental illness. Grouping together a set of similar mental disorders, Kraeplin established the term dementia praecox--premature or "early" dementia--which Bleuler later renamed schizophrenia.
