fortgewähren

A term coined by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in his novel Elective Affinities by combining gewähren and fortwähren, fortgewähren means "to grant permanently." Heidegger uses this invention as a way of connecting "essence" in the sense of "that which endures" with "granting."
