ENG 100(36): Composition I

Students will write 5 papers going through the process of drafting, peer review and feedback, revision, and proofreading. Papers will be in the expository mode and will include summary of/response to an article, autobiographical experience & perspective, image analysis, review/evaluation of a film, and an argument/research assignment. Students will learn the rhetorical elements of each kind of writing and ways to pitch their writing to certain audiences. Another goal of the course is to enable each student to discover and develop her own expressive individual voice in his writing. The final project will be the preparation of a portfolio and a reflective essay on the writing experience in the course.

The text for the course will be The Allyn & Bacon Guide to Writing, Fifth edition, ed. by Ramage, Bean, & Johnson. This text includes a handbook. It can be purchased at the UH Bookstore.
