Alani Apio is an actor, a dramatist, and a visual artist, born and raised in Hawai`i. His play Kamau toured with Kumu Kahua Theater in 1993-1994 and Kamau A`e, the second part of the Kamau trilogy, was produced by Kumu Kahua in 1997. His new play, Happy Valley, won the 1997 UH-Manoa and Kumu Kahua Playwriting Contest.
