Make your Travel Reservations Now! - A Note from our Conference Director
If you haven’t already made your air reservations, I would urge you to do so right now. June is a very busy month in Hawai‘i, and just this week two airlines that offered flights to Honolulu abruptly went out of business. If you would like assistance with making your reservations, we can put you in touch with a travel agent working with the conference here in Honolulu.
In other news, we are just completing the schedule for the conference panels. A preliminary version will then be posted on the conference website. Before April 15th, we’ll be contacting you individually about the final title and the abstract for your paper, and your audio-visual needs. We’ll also need a brief biographical note.
And we have a few spaces left in the inexpensive on-campus accommodations, so if you are interested in this form of housing, please contact us immediately. The deadline for campus housing is much earlier than for the Ala Moana Hotel.
We’re looking forward to seeing you all in June.
Me ke aloha,
Craig Howes
Conference Director
Jet Lag
If at all possible, give yourself a bit of time to start overcoming jetlag. If you are coming from the West Coast of North America, or even Eastern Australia, the change won’t be that extreme, but the East Coast, Europe, and all points elsewhere will be a challenge. We would suggest, then, that almost all of you should try to get here by Saturday, so that you have Sunday to adjust. The Ala Moana Hotel will be holding rooms at the conference rate beginning June 19th, and will extend the discount through the to July 2.
The conference will begin fairly early on the morning of Monday, June 23.
Family and Traveling Companions
If family and traveling companions plan on attending the entire conference, they will of course need to register and pay the required fees. If however they would like to attend a session or two, or even a day’s events, we will be happy to accommodate this without change. Family and guests will be welcome on the ground transportation to and from the Ala Moana Hotel as well. Complimentary tickets will also be available for the evening of Pacific Life Writing, and family and guests are more than welcome at the final banquet, for an individual fee to be arranged later. Please inform us in advance if you would like to pursue any or all of these options; we need to have reasonably accurate numbers for participants.
