Celebrate children's literature with an evening's festivities for the whole family, including presentations by Honolulu Theatre for Youth (performing Karen Hesse's The Music of Dolphins and Jerry Pinkney's Little Match Girl) and our special guests. Admission is FREE!
WORKSHOPS
AND ACTIVITIES
The sessions are quite open and meant for general audiences. They are arranged here according to schedule slots. Above each session’s title will be a phrase indicating the type of session it is. Professional sessions, which are the only sessions that have fees ($25 for non-members of CLH, $20 for members), are intended for people who plan to write or illustrate children’s books. These sessions with the featured author or illustrator are usually question-and-answer format, so that attendees can get “tailored” talks. The guests do not look at portfolios, however. The other sessions, which are FREE, are grouped according to three strands: interpreting, using, and creating literature. The Interpreting
Literature strand emphasizes different ways of reading children’s
literature. The Using Literature strand provides activities to
use with children at home, at school, or at
the library. The Creating Literature Strand provides advice on producing
or publishing your own work. C Sessions Friday, June 16, 3:00 p.m.-4:15 p.m. D Sessions Saturday, June 17, 10:15 a.m.-11:30 a.m. E Sessions Saturday, June 17, 11:45 a.m-1:00 p.m.
